HANCHOR Q&A Session 3

In this episode, we've gathered the following common questions:

Quick Overview of This Session:

Q1: What size laptop can fit in the backpack?

Q2: Is the large backpack suitable for direct boarding?

Q3: Differences in waterproof fabric materials

Let's Begin:

Q1: What size laptop can fit in the backpack?

A: Please refer to the table below.

Note: Laptop sizes vary by brand; it's best to compare with the actual product. You can consult HANCHOR customer service for the backpack's actual dimensions.

For backpacks without internal compartments, you can purchase the Laptop Sleeve as a protective cushion for your laptop.

Q2: Is the large backpack suitable for direct boarding?

A: Based on our experience, it is generally acceptable for boarding.

* Breccia Travel Backpack: Suitable for carrying on board.

Breccia is designed and developed according to carry-on luggage specifications—when fully packed, it reaches the maximum allowed carry-on size. It has been used multiple times as a carry-on bag for both domestic and international travel.

Q: If I attach external modules like the "Detachable Side Pouch" or the "CLAST Small Backpack," can I still bring it on the plane?

A: If the external modules contain items that cannot be compressed, they may exceed carry-on size limits. In cases involving stricter airlines, this can become an issue. We recommend placing the external modules inside the main pack to be on the safe side.

MARL, MARBLE, TUFA, FROST and other outdoor series backpacks

For backpacks with a back length of size (R) or smaller, they can be brought on board directly. For size (L), it is recommended to remove the aluminum stays to meet carry-on size requirements. For instructions on removing and assembling the aluminum stays, please refer to this article: Dual-Track Carrying System – Aluminum Stay Assembly Guide.

Since these backpacks are compressible with roll-top openings, their overall volume will vary depending on how much is packed. Therefore, the key factor is whether the packed size complies with the airline's carry-on regulations.

Q3: What are the differences in waterproof fabric materials?

A: We use various waterproof fabrics, each with its own characteristics:

Waterproof Performance
HANCHOR bags are made using waterproof materials, primarily X-PAC, Cordura, and 100D Nylon fabrics. In terms of waterproof rating data, X-PAC performs the best. Cordura and 100D Nylon fabrics use a military-grade PC coating that is scratch-resistant, abrasion-resistant, and hydrolysis-resistant, offering higher waterproof performance compared to standard coatings. For a detailed introduction to these materials, please refer to this article: Backpack Fabric Material Analysis

After all, backpacks are sewn products. While they are rain-resistant and weatherproof, they are not completely waterproof (i.e., they should not be fully submerged in water). In heavy rain over an extended period, moisture may gradually seep through tiny needle holes at the seams, leading to slight dampness. Based on user experience, the difference in rain protection among materials is minimal. To fully block out moisture, the best approach is to waterproof your gear inside the bag. Lifespan of Waterproof Fabrics
All waterproof materials have a limited lifespan and may eventually experience delamination (similar to Gore-Tex jackets). Lifespan is influenced by many factors such as frequency of use, environment, storage conditions (humidity/ventilation), and personal usage habits, making it difficult to define a specific number of years for each type of fabric. Since Taiwan is relatively humid and presents harsher environmental conditions, it is recommended to store your backpack in a well-ventilated area and to regularly dehumidify it like you would with clothing—this can help extend the lifespan of the fabric.
